Match Highlights:

Pakistan’s struggles with the bat

Pakistan’s decision to bat first backfired as their innings never truly gained momentum. Saud Shakeel’s well-compiled 62 off 76 balls was the lone highlight, while skipper Mohammad Rizwan contributed a gritty 46 off 77 balls. Khushdil Shah’s 38 off 39 added some impetus in the latter stages, but a disciplined Indian bowling attack never allowed Pakistan to break free.

All Indian bowlers were on point, keeping the opposition in check with exceptional fielding and tight lines. Pakistan were eventually bundled out for 241, failing to utilize the full 50 overs as they lost their last wicket with just two balls to spare.

Kohli’s Historic Masterclass

In response, Virat Kohli once again lived up to his reputation as the 'Chase Master.' Opening his innings with trademark cover drives, he took control early and dictated terms against both pace and spin. Kohli’s unbeaten 100 off 111 balls marked his 51st ODI century, making him the first-ever batter to achieve this feat in ODI history.

Adding to the historic occasion, he also became the fastest player to reach 14,000 ODI runs, doing so in just 287 innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 350 innings.

Other Batting Contributions

  • Shreyas Iyer played a composed innings, scoring 56 off 67 balls, cautiously settling in before accelerating.

  • Vice-captain Shubman Gill looked promising but fell for 46 off 52 balls.

  • Captain Rohit Sharma stuck to his aggressive batting template and scored a quickfire 20 off 15 balls, reaching 9,000 ODI runs as the fastest opener to do so.

India comfortably chased down the target in 42.3 overs, sealing an emphatic 6-wicket victory over their arch-rivals.
